Photos Photiades Group

Photos Photiades Group was founded in 1942, and today it is one of the largest and most successful privately-owned Group of companies. The Photos Photiades Group is involved in beverages, insurance, and real estate development in Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Croatia, and Slovenia.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate responsibility and sustainable business have always been an integral part of the Group’s growth strategy. Perhaps the most long-standing, significant heritage passed on by the founder of the Group Photos Photiades was the declared principle during the 1960s: “The Group must always give back more than the support and love of the people who made us who we are”, he used to say, an approach that has not been relinquished ever since.

Building on its timeless values and desire for excellence, the Group always aims at the continued development of its employees whilst it builds strong relationships with clients and associates and supports local communities in all countries it operates.

The Group embraces a philosophy of added value for all its stakeholders, seeking always to identify its name with quality and innovative products. Adopting the most widely recognized international standards and quality assessment, food safety, and environmental protection systems, the Group succeeds in responding to the relevant demands of regulatory authorities and the expectations of its associates and consumers. Awards serve as a much-needed boost in maintaining that strong sense and effort towards social responsibility.

As responsible consumption is always a priority, the Photos Photiades Group communicates and promotes this message in all its campaigns and packaging. It also reinforces this approach through relevant activities across all countries where it maintains a business presence. The Group is also investing in expanding to non-alcoholic drinks and developing alternative new products, always focusing on quality and taste for consumers. One notable example is the production of Carlsberg 0.0 in Cyprus.

In environmental terms, the Group is always seeking to minimize its footprint and invests in ‘green’ frontline technology to secure a significant reduction in energy and water consumption. Such innovative systems and green practices that the Group utilizes at its modern brewery are the ‘Stromboli Energy Recovery System’ saving 60% in thermal energy during the brewhouse process, and the CO2 retrieval system, whereby 670 thousand kilograms of the toxic substance are not released into the atmosphere but reused in production. Many other practices are also implemented with similar results. Photos Photiades Breweries also takes part in the Business4Climate network, in the framework of a comprehensive environmental management policy, committing itself to reduce carbon emissions.

Photos Photiades Foundation

The Photos Photiades Foundation, established in the 90s as a planned and targeted contribution to society, has developed numerous initiatives focusing on culture, art, and science. Among its actions is the crafting and placement around cities of busts representing historical personalities of our island, such as researcher Pavlos Ksioutas, folklorist Nearchos Clerides, poet Costas Montis, composer Marios Tokas, our poets Vassilis Michaelides (widely considered to be the national poet of Cyprus) and Dimitris Lipertis. Foundation’s initiatives also involve organising the annual Costas Montis national student awards,  and more recently, providing the funding for the upgrading of the ancient Idalion site, a donation of 100.000 euros. The foundation also annually give awards to high school and university students for their outstanding academic achievements. Furthermore, it has organized poetry nights, supported numerous academic conferences, lectures, and publications, and hosted special events to honor personalities such as the Cypriot Nobel laureate Christoforos Pissarides, the linguist Yiorgos Bambiniotis, and others.

The Photos Photiades Foundation has also established the Cyprus Museum of Natural History, contributing to a greater awareness of the Cypriot flora, fauna, and geological. The Museum boasts more than 2.500 exhibits, including embalmed mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, insects, and several types of rock, minerals, semi-precious stones, fossils, and shells. A visit to the Museum can undoubtedly spark a more in-depth look at the country’s natural environment and a love of our surroundings, which will, in turn, contribute to cultivating environmental conscience and the collective effort to protect the environment.
